Special Education

The Putnam County ESC’s Special Education Department is pleased to serve all nine school districts in the county, focused on educational opportunities for students with special needs and moderate to severe learning or behavioral disabilities. Students placed in our classrooms are on an Individual Education Plan (IEP).  Using a Team approach, the ESC oversees preschool and school-age special education classrooms throughout the county. Each of the classrooms utilize the most recent innovative strategies to educate each child on an individualized basis, all utilizing Specially Designed Instruction.

The ESC works with the public schools to evaluate students with educational concerns.  The ESC receives a request for student evaluation from the district of residence.  The evaluation process is a team approach.

The ESC employs Teachers, Speech Therapists, School Psychologists, a School Counselor, Occupational Therapist, and multiple paraprofessionals. Physical Therapy, hearing and vision specialists are contractual services.  We pride our department on high quality, individualized instruction with innovative programs while focusing on the ‘whole-child.’
